Peavey Company owners are long-time
industrial safety leaders
Buck Peavey, Doug Peavey, Zane Peavey and Skip Peavey
The Peavey family history includes a long line
of entrepreneurs.
It began with the founding of the Peavey Milling Company (today
known as ConAgra) the largest milling company in the world.
Then came the founding of Beatrice Foods, Inc. which has grown into
a multi-billion dollar corporation. Harold Peavey followed with
Peavey Paper Mills based in Ladysmith, Wisconsin that became one
of the largest paper mills in America. Then came the new generation.
After working with his Uncle Harold in the late
1940s, Lynn Peavey went into business with his son Zane Peavey.
They formed The Peavey Corporation based in Kansas City. Realizing
that many families struggle with the proper balance of family and
business, they formed a unique structure where family members did
not work for each other. If a family member chooses, he or she would
enter the family business and create an entrepreneurial enterprise.
Multiple business models have since prospered under the Peavey Corporations
umbrella. (Doug Peavey: The Lynn Peavey Co. Skip Peavey: The SH
Peavey Co.)
Zane Peavey started the incentive company (Peavey
Performance Systems) in 1952. The company sold hundreds of multi-million
dollar incentive programs over the years in the areas of sales,
productivity, and consumer loyalty. After motivating people through
the use of cash, merchandise, point banks, debt cards, catalogs,
and bingo-type incentive programs, it was time for a change.
In 1990, Zanes son, current president and
CEO, Buck Peavey, created a safety incentive company named Safety
Jackpot. Learning from past successful incentive elements, Peavey
placed the motivating emphasis on employee interaction, and a high-end
promotional campaign versus simply the incentive carrot
that most programs focus on. The new gamecard-based system would
reward for weekly accident prevention behavior, and be very easy
for the client to administer.
Today, more than a decade later, the vision has
come true. Safety Jackpot quickly out-motivated and out-performed
past incentive concepts tenfold. The Safety Jackpot program
has become the most recognized incentive program in the world. Thousands
of clients have proven its powerful return on investment.
Clientele includes Coca-Cola, Marriott, 3M, General Electric, Four
Seasons Hotels, Nabisco, Pepsi, Georgia Pacific, and others.
The Peavey Corporation has out-grown its corporate
offices and distribution centers many times. Today, both are still
located in Lenexa, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.
